Though the weather was cleared and everything was visible but still, there was calmness. DHARI DEVI TEMPLE           

On the way to Kedarnath, Dhari Devi temple situated on the banks of the river Alaknanda in Srinagar, Uttarakhand. This temple is the home of a top idol Goddess Dhari while the lower half is in Kalimath. She is a known patron of Char Dham and reincarnation of maa times.

Locals believe that the Goddess changes shape during the day. She is a child in the morning, a woman in the afternoon for an elderly woman in the evening. Goddess Kali is known because of the anger and the power to put an end to the world and caused havoc when angered him.

History

It is believed that the temple was washed away in a heavy flood and the idol of the Goddess Kali was stuck amidst the rocks. Then the villagers of the nearby village named Dharo village heard the painful voice of the Goddess and fixed her idol at this spot and this is how the temple got established and the place gained its religious temple.

Incident of 2013 Uttarakhand Flood

In 2013, the original goodness Dhari temple demolished for the construction of 330 MW Alaknanda Hydro Electric Dam was built by the Alaknanda Hydro Power Company Ltd. (AHPCL). The temple is causing hindrance to the Hydro Power project. After protests by locals, it was decided to move the gods. On June 16, 2013 due to heavy rain, the idol was removed from its place. A few hours after the idol has moved the region facing the greatest tragedy that shook the area and took many lives. Once the idol was lifted from its original position, following heavy rainfall resulting in floods and landslides in Kedarnath. It breaks down the entire Uttarakhand, killing hundreds of people.

Similar efforts have been made in 1882. A local king tried to shift the idol but the result was a disaster. The implication is a landslide nearly flat Kedarnath. After local residents who believe that not angry Dhari Devi who has great strength and show all the time to people when they try to move her.

Now a new temple is being constructed just above the place of her original location. To facilitate the Hydropower Project smoothly the height of the temple was raised around 611meters so that the temple would stay above the water level of Alaknanda River and would not submerge in the river.

Devotees visit Dhari Devi Temple all around the year but during Navratras the number of visitors increses by manifold.

The auspicious occasion of Navratri, Deepavali, and Kartik Purnima are organized and celebrated here with great joy and zeal. On these grand celebrations, the temple is adorned beautifully and is crowded heavily with devotees.

Maletha

A small yet beautiful and quite popular village located near Srinagar, this beautiful place is reckoned for the bravery of Madho Singh Bhandari. Madho Singh is the one who separated India and Tibet with an international boundary which is presently called a Mac-Mohan line. You can see a huge statue of this brave man where each and every villager flocks to worship him. This huge statue is the main attraction of this village due to its awe-inspiring design.

Best Time to Visit

The temple is located in Kalyasur which witnesses much favorable and serene environment from November to June and it is also a great idea to visit this pilgrimage during any of the festive seasons as the place looks most delightful.

Weather in Summer

During the summer season the temperature is moderate and the temperature ranges from 20 degree Celsius to 36 degree Celsius. It is the time when you can prevent yourself from any hindrance and helps you to gain rejuvenating spiritual vibes.

Weather in Winter

If you love walking on the snow of playing with snow then winter is the best time to visit this district. The weather gets quite cold with the temperature hitting sub-zero level.

Weather in the Monsoon

The soul-enriching aroma of the soil, swaying of trees, and the changing colors of the sky make this place quite appealing and inviting. However, the region is heavily prone to landslides and roadblocks so it is advised to stay updated with the weather forecast before planning your trip.

How To Reach Dhari Devi Temple
Dhari Devi Temple is located at Kalyasaur between Srinagar and Rudraprayag. Distance between Srinagar-Dhari Devi and Dhari Devi-Rudraprayag is 16 km and 20 km respectively. One can reach here easily by bus or taxi from Srinagar and Rudraprayag. Nearest railway station is at Rishikesh railway station (119 kms) and airport at jolly Grant airport (136kms).
